Lent Devotion | Day 14

1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Time and time again throughout the pages of scripture, we see an invitation from God to take a step towards him in obedience with a promise of how he will care for us. God's hand is always extended to us, and it's up to us if we are going to take the step that's required to draw closer.

In 1 Peter 5, our invitation from God is to humble ourselves - to surrender the control we think we have on our lives, to put our trust in God's plans over our own, to release our stubbornness and submit to the way of God. When we humble ourselves and entrust ourselves to his care and direction, we see that with God's strength and power, he will lift us up.

What is it that you need to lay at the feet of Jesus in order to humble yourself? Is it your pride, your greed, your stubbornness, your control?

Surrender it to the Lord, humble yourself - and trust the God that fulfills his promise to lift us up.
