Lent Devotion | Day 39

Matthew 28:1-2 (NIV)
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, were deeply mourning the loss of Jesus. He was not only their teacher, but he was their friend. So it’s no surprise that they decided to go visit Jesus’ tomb. We often visit our loved ones at their gravesite. However, it was a big surprise to these Marys that when they arrived at the tomb, they were met by a violent earthquake and an angel of the Lord who rolled back the stone.

Even when it seemed like death had won and there was no hope, God was on the move.

Is there something in your life that seems impossible? Be encouraged that God is still working and there's nothing that he can't do.
