Lent Devotion | Day 18

Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for him!

Take a second to think of the things for which you truly long. Not a private jet, or high paying job, but the deepest longings of your heart and soul.

For some, this could be a reunion with a loved one or friend, a desire to adopt or have children, or maybe relief from crippling anxiety. You know how desperately you’ve longed for these to come to fruition, the peace and fulfillment these hopes can bring, and the heartache of patiently waiting for them to happen. Our compassionate God, the same God who put the planets into motion LONGS to be gracious to YOU.

Since God is good, and good at being God, he faithfully rises up to display unconditional compassion on you day by day. The truest, deepest, and most authentic longing of God is YOU.

During Lent, take time to reflect on how God displayed this longing on the cross, and how you can share in God’s missional desire. We have hopeful anticipation of the fulfillment of God’s deepest longing. After all, blessed are all who wait for him!
