Lent Devotion | Day 29

Hosea 12:6 (NIV)
But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.

The invitation to return to God implies that the people of Judah, to whom this was written, had turned away from him and were walking in disobedience. The fickleness of humankind often leads us to pursue desires that are not aligned with the will of God. Even still, God is acknowledged as “their God.” He never removed his mercy from his people. His arms were wide open to receive them with love.

The beckoning to choose faith, to choose repentance and dependence on the Lord, is available for us today. His requests for us are simple: to maintain love and justice, two principals at the very heart of God’s character, and to wait for him continually. Though simple, we recognize that these commands are certainly not always easy to follow. In a world that screams self-centeredness and instant gratification, we must rely on the faithfulness of Christ to guide us in patience and obedience.

Be encouraged today to surrender yourself to a loving Father who is ready and waiting with open arms. Seek his face always, and he will give you strength.
