Lent Devotion | Day 32

Mark 14:24 (NLT)
And he said to them, “This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many."

On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the day it was required to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus shared a meal with his disciples. During the meal, Jesus took bread and told his disciples to eat it and that it was his body. Then Jesus took a cup, and gave it to his disciples and they drank. Jesus said to them “This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many.” (Mark 14:24)

The beauty of this meal is that Jesus offers it freely to anyone. Whoever simply believes can partake in this cup - this cup of forgiveness by the new covenant that God has made through Jesus taking our place on the cross. Jesus, the Lamb without blemish, was sacrificed once for all mankind. Because he made this atoning sacrifice, it is no longer a requirement to make sacrifices as a way to cleanse ourselves of sin.

Because Jesus poured out His blood for us, we are forgiven if we put our faith in him.
