Lent Devotion | Day 38

Luke 9:23 (NIV)

Then he said to them all: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

These words that Jesus speaks have a lot of weight to them.

Being a disciple, someone who follows Jesus, isn’t something that is always going to be easy. Choosing to follow Jesus means being willing to die to our own agenda and our need for control, so that we can be fully surrendered to God and his plan for our life. It means letting go of the things in us that are driven by sin, and choosing to be obedient to God and honor him in the ways that we live. It may not be easy, but it’s always worth it.

Denying ourselves and following Jesus is the best decision we’ll ever make.
